Staff Gaulter, senior meteorologist at Al Jazeera English, has also forecast a wet weekend. When asked about how heavy the rainfall would be, she told Doha News:
“If I had an outside Christmas lunch planned, I would be making other arrangements.”
The last time Qatar meteorologists forecast heavy rains, several parts of Qatar became flooded, leading to damaged buildings, traffic gridlock and widespread school cancelations.
Taken aback by the chaos, Qatar’s prime minister ordered an investigation into why several buildings, including the Sheraton Doha and Hamad International Airport, were unable to handle the deluge.
Cold front
According to Gaulter, the precipitation should begin to clear up on Saturday.
However, temperatures are expected to begin dropping that day to a maximum of 20C (68F), she said.
The MET added that colder weather will likely stick around until close to New Year’s.
